چکیده

The study of compressible homogeneous shear flows has been largely analyzed in literature. Predictions for these flows require an improvement of existing turbulence models. Rapid-distortion-theory (RDT) has largely showed its relevance and its utility to identify compressibility effects which allow us to analyze performances of compressible turbulence models from the existing literature. This paper describes an evaluation of two models of homogeneous compressible turbulence by comparison with RDT results in compressible regime of flow. This model evaluation stays in the field of RDT validity. Precisely, the manuscript deals with two pressure-strain correlation models developed by Hamba and Marzougui et al. Linear parts of these models do not correctly predict compressible turbulence. A numerical calibration of coefficients included in these models provides broadly a net improvement with RDT results.

Rapid distortion theory for compressible homogeneous turbulence under isotropic mean strain

Isotropic compressible turbulence subjected to rapid isotropic compression is studied using inviscid rapid distortion theory ~RDT! and direct numerical simulation. An exact solution to the rapid distortion problem is given. Comparisons are made between the simulation results and the RDT solution, as well as previously studied limiting cases of the RDT solution. The comparisons illustrate the ra...

Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Subsonic Compressible Flow through Rectangular Microchannel

In this study, turbulent compressible gas flow in a rectangular micro-channel is numerically investigated. The gas flow assumed to be in the subsonic regime up to Mach number about 0.7. Five low and high Reynolds number RANS turbulence models are used for modeling the turbulent flow. Two types of mesh are generated depending on the employed turbulence model. The computations are performed for R...

Numerical simulation of turbulent compressible flows in a C-D nozzle with different divergence angles

Compressible gas flow inside a convergent-divergent nozzle and its exhaust plume atdifferent nozzle pressure ratios (NPR) have been numerically studied with severalturbulence models. The numerical results reveal that, the SST k–ω model give the bestresults compared with other models in time and accuracy. The effect of changes in value ofdivergence half-angle (ε ) on the nozzle performance, thru...

Turbulence modeling of compressible flows with large density variation

In this study we highlight the influence of mean dilatation and mean density gradient on the Reynolds stress modeling of compressible, heat-releasing and supercritical turbulent flows. Firstly, the modeling of the rapid pressure-strain correlation has been extended to self-consistently account for the influence of mean dilatation. Secondly, an algebraic model for the turbulent density flux has ...

Numerical Investigation on Compressible Flow Characteristics in Axial Compressors Using a Multi Block Finite Volume Scheme

An unsteady two-dimensional numerical investigation was performed on the viscous flow passing through a multi-blade cascade. A Cartesian finite-volume approach was employed and it was linked to Van-Leer's and Roe's flux splitting schemes to evaluate inviscid flux terms. To prevent the oscillatory behavior of numerical results and to increase the accuracy, Monotonic Upstream Scheme for Conservat...
